#1 tip for finding cheap spring flights

If you’re looking for the cheapest places to fly this spring, you’re probably interested in finding the cheapest flights at any time of the year. That’s why, before we get into our locations, I want to tell you about my favorite way to find the best flight deals, no matter where you travel.

For years I have been using Scott’s Cheap Flights (now called Going) to find the best deals on airfare for domestic and international flights. It’s a free service where you input your departure point and destination and then get free email alerts about cheap flight deals. They also send out mistake fares and other once-in-a-lifetime flight deals directly to your inbox.

While the free tier is great for the occasional travel, I’ve got to say that if you’re a frequent flyer like me, the premium-level membership is worth it. Considering I save on average between $300 and $500 roundtrip depending on my flight routes, it pays to go premium. For just $49 a year, you’re the first to know about exclusive deals and incredible savings.

I’ve saved thousands of dollars in the last few years using Scott’s Cheap Flights, and you can, too! To save even more money, use my discount code Jon20 to save 20% when you join Going!

Other considerations when finding cheap flight deals for spring travel

When it comes to finding cheap places to fly in the spring, there are many popular destinations that won’t strain your budget. Way too many to include in this list, in fact. Keep in mind that the cheap places recommended in this article are not the only budget-friendly destinations you can fly to. For this roundup, I primarily focused on the cheapest places to fly from North America, such as New York City or Boston, as well as destinations I am most familiar with. If you are traveling from the West Coast or a different country, your prices will be different.

It’s also important to keep in mind that ticket prices change frequently, so the cheapest airfare may not always be the cheapest compared to other cities. To find the best deals, I recommend signing up for Going flight alerts and researching the cheapest airports and airlines near you. This way, you will be best prepared to close the deal when you come across a bargain!

Finding the best flight deals isn’t always as easy as we’d hope. If you’re having trouble finding affordable flights, don’t give up! While booking a trip months in advance can be a great way to score discounted airfare, it’s not the only way. Many people find amazing last-minute deals. It just takes a little patience. Remember, most airlines would prefer to sell a reduced seat than fly with empty ones.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the cheapest places to fly in spring

Looking to plan the ultimate affordable vacation this spring? There are a few things you should know to help you keep costs down without sacrificing your enjoyment. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions and answers about finding cheap flights in the spring.

Which months are the cheapest to fly?

When it comes to finding the cheapest flights, there are certain months that tend to offer better deals. In general, February, March, April, and May can be great for securing affordable flights.

Spring is considered a shoulder season for travel, meaning it falls between the peak and off-peak periods. During this time, you can often find cheaper airfare as the demand for travel tends to decrease compared to the summer or holiday seasons.

In February, you may find discounted flights as it is typically a quieter month for travel after the busy holiday season. March offers a similar scenario, with fewer travelers and the potential for lower fares. April is another month when you can often score great deals on flights, as it is before the summer rush. Sometimes you can find cheaper flights in May after the spring break rush has died down a bit.

It’s worth noting that the exact timing and availability of cheap flights can vary based on factors such as destination, airline, and current market conditions. However, by targeting these months and being flexible with your travel dates, you increase your chances of finding affordable flights for your springtime adventures!

How do you find the cheapest flights in the spring?

Finding the best flight deals for spring travel is possible, it just requires some research and flexibility. Here are some of my biggest tips for finding the best flight deals and cheapest places to fly in spring:

  • Be flexible with your travel dates: Being open to different departure and return dates can significantly impact the price of your flight. Use flexible date search tools on travel websites or apps (like Skyscanner or Google Flights) to compare prices across a range of dates. Flying on weekdays or during off-peak times can often result in lower fares.
  • Set fare alerts: Sign up for fare alerts or subscribe to newsletters from airlines or travel websites. These notifications will keep you informed about any price drops or special promotions for your desired destinations. Set alerts for multiple airports near your origin and destination to increase your chances of finding a great deal. My favorite tool for flight alerts is Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights).
  • Consider alternative airports: Flying into or out of secondary or nearby airports can sometimes result in significant savings. Check for flights to alternative airports within a reasonable distance from your destination and compare prices to see if it’s worth the extra effort.
  • Be flexible with your destination: If you have flexibility in choosing your destination, explore multiple options. Look for lesser-known or emerging destinations that may offer more affordable flights during the spring season. Consider using flight search engines with flexible destination options that allow you to see prices for various locations.

Remember that finding the cheapest flights in the spring requires a combination of timing, flexibility, and thorough research. By employing these strategies and staying persistent in your search, you can increase your chances of finding affordable airfare for your spring travel plans!

Which US airlines offer the cheapest flights?

Several US airlines are known for offering affordable flight options, especially for spring travel. While prices can vary depending on factors such as travel dates, destinations, and demand, here are some of the most budget-friendly airlines in the US:

  • Southwest Airlines: Southwest is renowned for its low-cost fares and transparent pricing. They offer a no-frills experience focusing on value, and their fares often include two free checked bags. Southwest operates an extensive domestic network and serves many popular destinations within the United States.
  • Spirit Airlines: Spirit is an ultra-low-cost carrier that offers some of the lowest base fares in the industry. They have a no-frills approach, charging additional fees for seat selection and carry-on bags. Spirit primarily operates flights to major cities and vacation destinations within the US and also offers select international routes.
  • Frontier Airlines: Like Spirit, Frontier is an ultra-low-cost carrier offering budget-friendly fares. They focus on providing affordable flights to popular destinations and charge additional fees for extras. Frontier operates a route network that includes many US cities and select international destinations.
  • Allegiant Air: Allegiant Air is another low-cost airline primarily serving leisure destinations. They specialize in offering flights to smaller airports near popular vacation spots, often providing seasonal or limited-frequency service. Allegiant Air is known for its low base fares and various optional add-ons.
  • JetBlue Airways: JetBlue is a low-cost carrier that combines value with a more comfortable onboard experience. They offer complimentary snacks and beverages, free Wi-Fi, and in-flight entertainment. JetBlue operates an extensive route network across the US and also offers select international flights.

Why are flights so expensive for spring break?

When considering flights for spring break, it’s all about supply and demand. Think about it – when thousands upon thousands of young adults all decide to book trips to the same handful of destinations, there’s only so much airplane space to go around. So, airlines know that they can charge a pretty penny for those seats.

But it’s not just the sheer number of people traveling that drives up prices – it’s also the timing. Spring break typically falls around the same time for most colleges and universities, meaning that there’s a very narrow window of time during which everyone wants to travel. And when demand is high and supply is limited, prices naturally go up.

So, there you have it – the reason flights are so expensive during spring break is because everyone and their mother (literally, in some cases) wants to go somewhere warm and tropical at the exact same time. But hey, if you’re willing to pay the price, you’re in for one heck of a party.
